PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project reimagines Kratos and Laufey from God of War: Ragnarök as part of
Penguin Books' new Famous Couples series, combining the structure of a traditional
biographical story with the game's mythology and symbolism to examine their love
through a modern lens. Visual motifs inspired by the Phoenix and the Norse World Tree
emphasize ideas of rebirth, destiny, and cyclical life, adding depth to the tale and emphasizing
the complexities of their dynamics. The work demonstrates creative ideas, illustration,
typography, color, and composition, as well as conceptual metaphors and abstract thinking,
all of which contribute to the project's theme.

APPROACH
The project visually represents the essence of Kratos and Laufey through symbolic design, combining digital art techniques with traditional principles. A phoenix – created using AI imaging software and refined in Photoshop – serves as a symbol of rebirth, while a traced and modified Nordic World Tree conveys the interconnected realms without infringing copyright. As direct images of the characters were restricted, the design relies on evocative symbols and thematic elements. The custom typography was developed by adapting the Papyrus font into a Norse-inspired runic style, and the mix of fire and snow in the background was achieved by overlaying multiple images with adjusted opacity. A contrasting palette of warm reds and oranges against cool blues and whites reinforces the central duality of the characters and their mythology.
